Quick Question: If you had to take a mental check on how you felt at the end of the work week, how would you assess your level of energy and emotional availability? Oftentimes, my weekends were spent trying to recover and catch up on sleep that I missed out on earlier in the week, being lazy, ignoring my heaping pile of laundry and sink full of dishes.
Have you ever felt like you were so exhausted and drained that you just wanted to quickly shut your brain off, hop in the shower, eat some takeout, and indulge in some mindless TV! Trust me, I live in that space daily. It’s like there is always something to do, a text to reply to, a customer asking for a favor, amongst many other things. It also doesn’t matter if you’re in corporate America, an entrepreneur with no true work week, or maybe you navigate the virtual space, we all experience the feeling of burnout and need to reset.
I realized that each and every day I was being pulled in so many directions and continually asked to do certain things. I strongly started to feel that I needed a day to get my thoughts together and reset because if I didn’t, I’d be forced to enter another week with last week’s baggage.
As the name suggests, Sunday Reset is done on a Sunday. It’s a day where you can “get your ish together” so that you could have a productive week ahead. Don’t get me wrong, some of you may already be doing a version of this without even knowing. The differentiator here is that we are being more intentional about planning our week and taking the time to enjoy it throughout the day.
My Sunday Reset changes from time to time depending on what I have going on (which is totally okay), but for the most part, it stays relatively the same. I would say, keeping it the same allows for more consistency and routine.
Here’s mine:
- Watch church service online
- Cook and eat breakfast
- Order my groceries and put them away
- Restock my fridge (refill juice and milk containers)
- Restock my tea drawer
- Meal prep * (this one definitely gets an asterisk haha)
- Wash, fold, and put away my laundry
- Take out the trash
- Plan out my week on my monthly view dry erase calendar and physical agenda including my full-time job, side projects, and social activities
- Get ready for bed early: Take my melatonin pill and knock out 🙂
What does your Sunday reset look like? I’d love to hear about it! If you don’t currently have a Sunday Reset routine, do you see the value in having one? Why or why not?
