Rise to the occasion: celebrating national french bread day with freshly baked bread

I’m back again with a wonderful, made-up holiday: National French Bread Day is approaching on March 21. As if I needed a fake day to encourage me to eat yummy bread. But, since it’s a thing, let’s talk about it!

Now, I had no idea how serious french bread (also known as baguette) was in France, but apparently French law has established what is and what is not a baguette. In 1920, a labor law prevented bakers from starting their day before 4 a.m. When the law limited their day, the bakers adjusted by re-shaping their loaves of bread. The long, narrow loaves baked more quickly and evenly. As a result, patrons found the new loaves more convenient for slicing and storing. (source)

Although french bread has been said to be a good source of energy-providing carbohydrates, they also spike your blood sugar, so watch out for the overconsumption of this yummy food. If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate this day, why not try baking your own french bread?

Check out this easy homemade french bread recipe that will have you feeling like you just sat down for a nice cup of coffee in your favorite French bakery while you wait for hot, yummy bread. I’m strongly considering making this for myself, but if I end up not having enough time, I’m going to check out Grain de Cafe — a local bakery here in Naples that has raving reviews.

I’m signing out by encouraging you to indulge a bit and enjoy some french bread with your favorite coffee, soup, salad, or pasta. *or really just by itself, because why not?*

Sincerely,
SOS
